The main transmitter is 104.7FM, broadcasting from Churchdown Hill near to jct 11 on the M5. The station also has several infill transmitters on AM and FM. The Stroud transmitter broadcasts on 95.0 FM & the Cirencester transmitter broadcasts on 95.8FM.
In 1992 Home Office reclaimed its original AM frequency (FM reception is poor in some areas due to the hilly nature of the county), but after much government debate a new AM frequency of 1413kHz was eventually allocated to the station. There are AM transmitters broadcasting on 1413 at Stow-on-the-Wold and at Berkeley Heath.
The station will commence broadcasting on DAB digital radio when local services are provided via the Muxco local multiplex. Muxco currently plan to merge the "Gloucestershire" and "Herefordshire & Worcestershire" multiplexes and was due to launch in early 2011.[1]
The [2] DAB transmitters planned for the multiplex that will serve the Gloucestershire audience are due to be located at Churchdown Hill (for the Severn Vale, including the Cheltenham/Gloucester conurbation) and Ridge Hill. Transmitters in Stroud (for the 5 valleys), Icomb Hill, near Bourton-on-the-Water (for the North Cotswolds) and Blunsdon in Swindon(for the South Cotswolds)will be introduced in the licence period.
BBC Radio Gloucestershire broadcasts live local programming each weekday from 0600 to 1900, Saturdays from 0600 to 1805 and Sundays from 0600 to 1300. The station has studios at BBC Gloucestershire on London Road in Gloucester.[2]
From 1900 - 0100 each weekday, all BBC local radio stations in the BBC West region simulcast Keith Warmington and Trevor Fry's late show. At weekends, evening programming is shared with BBC South West and BBC West.
Overnight programming is simulcast from BBC Radio 5 Live, mainly consisting of Up All Night and Morning Reports.
